Harold Abel School of Psychology
The PsyD specialization in counseling psychology prepares learners to pursue
diverse career paths within our changing society. Because this specialization
is ultimately designed for state licensure eligibility as a counseling
psychologist*, it is a very rigorous program that requires course work,
residency, and field training experiences. Doctoral graduates typically
intend to seek a license to practice professional psychology and must be
familiar with the licensure requirements of their state psychology boards.
In addition to providing counseling services to individuals and groups, graduates
will be prepared to work with nonprofit organizations, to teach at the undergraduate
or graduate level, to conduct program evaluations, to offer consulting
services, and to provide supervision of other mental health professionals.
Year in Residence Requirements: One two-week extended seminar followed by nine weekends in residence. Concludes with a second
two-week extended seminar. See Year-in-Residence details.
